Worship – March 3, 2013

Call to Worship
Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.

Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.

For the Lord is the great God,
the great King above all gods.

Come, let us bow down in worship,
let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture.

—Psalm 95:1-3, 6, & 7 (NIV 1984)

Prayer of Confession
Lord God, we are sinful.
Our hearts are cold,
Our faith is shallow,
And in our arrogance, we deny our need of you.
Have mercy and forgive us, for Jesus’ sake.
Warm our hearts with your love.
Give us your restoring grace.
And make us a people
Who find their identity in belonging to you.
Through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Savior.  Amen.

I Sing the Mighty Power of God
I sing the mighty power of God, that made the mountains rise,
That spread the flowing seas abroad, and built the lofty skies.
I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day;
The moon shines full at his command, and all the stars obey.

I sing the goodness of the Lord, who filled the earth with food,
Who formed the creatures with his Word, and then pronounced them good.
Lord, how thy wonders are displayed, where’er I turn my eye,
If I survey the ground I tread, or gaze upon the sky.

There’s not a plant or flower below, but makes thy glories known,
And clouds arise, and tempests blow, by order from thy throne;
While all that borrows life from thee is ever in thy care;
And everywhere that man can be, thou, God art present there.

Isaac Watts, altered Tune, ELLACOMBE, from Gesangbuch der Herzogl, Württemberg, 1784

Love the Lord
Love the Lord your God
With all your heart, with all your soul
With all your mind, and with all your strength
Love the Lord your God
With all your heart, with all your soul
With all your mind, and with all your strength

With all your heart, with all your soul
With all your mind, with all your strength

Love the Lord your God
With all your heart, with all your soul
With all your mind, and with all your strength

I will serve the Lord
With all my heart, with all my soul
With all my mind, and with all my strength
I will serve the Lord
With all my heart, with all my soul
With all my mind, and with all my strength

With all my heart, with all my soul
With all my mind, with all my strength
I will serve the Lord
With all my heart, with all my soul
With all my mind, and with all my strength

With all my heart, with all my soul
With all my mind, with all my strength
With all my heart, with all my soul
With all my mind, with all my strength

I will love You Lord
With all my heart, with all my soul
With all my mind, and with all my strength

I will love You Lord
With all my heart, with all my soul
With all my mind, and with all my strength

I will love You Lord
With all my heart, with all my soul
With all my mind, and with all my strength

Affirmation of Faith
When I am afraid of evils to come, give me comfort by showing me
that in myself I am a dying, condemned wretch,

but in Christ I am reconciled and live;

that in myself I find insufficiency and restlessness,

but in Christ there is satisfaction and peace;

that in myself I am feeble and unable to do good,

but in Christ I have ability to do all things.

Though now I have his graces in part,
one day I shall have them perfectly.

You alone are the one who is
sufficient, loving me completely,
with sin abolished. O Lord, hasten that day.

—Adapted from The Valley of Vision

Fairest Lord Jesus
Fairest Lord Jesus, ruler of all nature,
O thou of God and man the Son,
Thee will I cherish, thee will I honor,
Thou, my soul’s glory, joy, and crown.

Fair are the meadows, fairer still the woodlands,
Robed in the blooming garb of spring:
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer
Who makes the woeful heart to sing.

Fair is the sunshine, fairer still the moonlight,
And all the twinkling starry host:
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer
Than all the angels heaven can boast.

Beautiful Savior! Lord of the nations!
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor, praise, adoration,
Now and forevermore be thine.

Sermon
‘Heavenly Bread’
John 6:22-35

The Lord’s Supper

How Deep The Father’s Love For Us
How deep the Father’s love for us, how vast beyond all measure
That he should give his only Son to make a wretch his treasure
How great the pain of searing loss, the Father turns his face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One bring many sons to glory

Behold a man upon a cross my sin upon his shoulders
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held him there until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything – no gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ, his death, and resurrection
Why should I gain from his reward I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart – his wounds have paid my ransom
Why should I gain from his reward I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart – his wounds have paid my ransom

Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father
And to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost
As it was in the beginning
Is now, and ever shall be
World without end
Amen, amen
