Call to Worship
Who among the gods I like you, O LORD?
Who is like you – majestic in holiness,
Awesome in glory, working wonders?
In your unfailing love you will lead
The people you have redeemed.

In your strength you will guide them
In your holy dwelling

—Exodus 15:11 & 13  (NIV, 1984)

Prayer of Confession
Almighty God, you know
that we have no power in ourselves to help ourselves:
Keep us both outwardly in our bodies
and inwardly in our souls,
that we may be defended from all adversities
which may happen to the body,
and from all evil thoughts
which may assault and hurt the soul;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

—Book of Common Prayer

We Will Run
Create in me a clean heart,
For I have turned my face from you
Save us from our ways O God, O God
For we have turned away from you
Lord have mercy

We will run to you, we will run to you
Turning from our sin we return to you
Father heal your world, make all things new
Make all things new

Your love and mercy build and shape us
Break us and recreate us now
Lord have mercy

We will run to you, we will run to you
Turning from our sin we return to you
Father heal your world, make all things new
Make all things new
(repeat)

O, bring us back to you
O, bring us back to you
O, bring us back to you
O, bring us back to you

We will run to you, we will run to you
Turning from our sin we return to you
Father heal your world, make all things new
Make all things new

Blessed Be Your Name
Blessed be your name
In the land that is plentiful
Where your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be your name

Blessed be your name
When I’m found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed be your name

Every blessing you pour out
I’ll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in
Lord still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be your glorious name

Blessed be your name
When the sun’s shining down on me
When the world’s all as it should be
Blessed be your name

Blessed be your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there’s pain in the offering
Blessed be your name

Every blessing you pour out
I’ll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in
Lord still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be your glorious name

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be your name

Every blessing you pour out
I’ll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in
Lord still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be your glorious name
(repeat)

Confession of Faith
In the light of divine grace, we recognize ourselves to be a Church of sinners.

We require forgiveness daily, and live only through the mercy of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.  He redeems us from our isolation and unites us into a living Church of Jesus Christ.

Amen.

—from the Moravians: The Belief of the Church – ‘The Ground of the Unity’ of the Unitas Fratum in 1957)

Immortal, Invisible God Only Wise
Immortal, invisible
God only wise
In light inaccessible
Hid from our eyes
Most blessed, most glorious
The ancient of days
Almighty, victorious
Thy great name we praise

Unresting, unhasting
And silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting
Thou rulest in might
Thy justice, like mountains
High soaring above
Thy clouds, which are fountains
Of goodness and love

To all, life thou givest
To both great and small
In all life thou livest
The true life of all
We blossom and flourish
As leaves on the tree
And wither and perish
But naught changeth Thee

Great Father of glory
Pure Father of light
Thine angels adore thee
All veiling their sight
All praise we would render
O help us to see
‘Tis only the splendor
Of light hideth thee

Walter Chalmers Smith, 1867.Tune, ST. DENIO, traditional Welsh hymn melody

Sermon
Believing Something About the Holy Spirit — The Uncertainty We Cast on Our Own Faith
Psalms 51:1-12

Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father
And to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost
As it was in the beginning
Is now and ever shall be
World without end
Amen, amen
