Worship – June 2, 2013

Call to Worship
It is good to praise the LORD
and make music to your name, O Most High,

To proclaim your love in the morning
and your faithfulness at night.

—Psalm 92:1-2, NIV

Prayer of Confession
Sovereign God and King,
You are a gracious Father
Who loves and provides for His children.
Forgive when we are ungrateful,
In how we think, and respond.
Protect us from our idols,
And idle treasures that only enslave.
Help us to celebrate your goodness,
With gracious and consecrated lives.
Melt our hearts for the brokenhearted,
The weak and the needy.
Make us a gracious people.
Through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Majestic
O Lord, our Lord how majestic
Is your name in all the earth
O Lord, our Lord how majestic
Is your name in all the earth

The heavens declare your greatness
The oceans cry out to you
The mountains they bow down before you
So I’ll join with the earth
And I’ll give my praise to you

O Lord, our Lord how majestic
Is your name in all the earth
O Lord, our Lord how majestic
Is your name in all the earth

The heavens declare your greatness
The oceans cry out to you
The mountains they bow down before you
So I’ll join with the earth and I’ll sing

The heavens declare your greatness
The oceans cry out to you
The mountains they bow down before you
So I’ll join with the earth
And I’ll give my praise to you

I will worship you
I will worship you
We will worship you
We will worship you

The heavens declare your greatness
The oceans cry out to you
The mountains they bow down before you
So I’ll join with the earth and I’ll sing

The heavens declare your greatness
The oceans cry out to you
The mountains they bow down before you
So I’ll join with the earth
And I’ll give my praise to you

O Lord, our Lord how majestic
Is your name in all the earth

In the Shadow of the Glorious Cross
In the shadow of the glorious cross
Compelled by grace to cast my lot
I’ll discard the loss and bare your name
Forsaking all for your own fame

Your hymn of grace sung over me
Abounding forth in glorious streams
My thirst is quenched by you, my Lord
Sustained am I, redeemed, restored
Sustained am I, redeemed, restored

Hallelujah, hallelujah

When death’s dark shadow’s at my feet
When I am plagued by unbelief
You place my hands into your side
By precious blood identified
By precious blood identified

Hallelujah, hallelujah

These crowns I’ve clenched with fisted hands
I cast them down before the throne
Of Christ, my God, the worthy lamb
Christ crucified, the Great I AM
Christ crucified, the Great I AM
Christ crucified, the Great I AM

Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah

Gifts — Christ, Or Else I Die
Gracious Lord, incline thy ear
My requests vouchsafe to hear
Hear my never-ceasing cry
Give me Christ, or else I die

Wealth and honor I disdain
Earthly comforts, Lord are vain
These can never satisfy
Give me Christ, or else I die

All unholy and unclean
I am nothing else but sin
On thy mercy I rely
Give me Christ, or else I die

Thou dost freely save the lost
In thy grace alone I trust
With my earnest suit comply
Give me Christ, or else I die

All unholy and unclean
I am nothing else but sin
On thy mercy I rely
Give me Christ, or else I die

 Thou dost promise to forgive
All who in thy Son believe
Lord, I know thou canst not lie
Give me Christ, or else I die

All unholy and unclean
I am nothing else but sin
On thy mercy I rely
Give me Christ, or else I die

Baptisms {10:30 a.m.}

The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried;
he descended to hell. The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy *catholic church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

*‘Catholic’ is the historic word meaning ‘universal’ – it therefore refers to the entirety of believers throughout history.

Immortal, Invisible God Only Wise
Immortal, invisible
God only wise
In light inaccessible
Hid from our eyes

Most blessed, most glorious
The Ancient of Days
Almighty, victorious
Thy great name we praise

Unresting, unhasting
And silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting
Thou rulest in might

Thy justice, like mountains
High soaring above
Thy clouds, which are fountains
Of goodness and love

To all, life thou givest
To both great and small
In all life thou livest
The true life of all

We blossom and flourish
As leaves on the tree
And wither and perish
But naught changeth thee

Great Father of glory
Pure Father of light
Thine angels adore thee
All veiling their sight

All praise we would render
O help us to see
‘Tis only the splendor
Of light hideth thee

Walter Chalmers Smith, 1867.Tune, ST. DENIO, traditional Welsh hymn melody
