Welcome & Announcements

Call to Worship
Come and worship, all you who love and serve the Lord:

There is no one like our God!

The First and Last – the only One:

There is no one like our God!

Creator, Sustainer, Redeemer and King:

There is no one like our God!

The Rock in whom we place our trust:

There is no one like our God!

Let’s worship God together.

—based on Isaiah 44

Come Ye Sinners
Come, ye sinners, poor and wretched
Weak and wounded, sick and sore
Jesus, ready, stands to save you
Full of pity, joined with power

He is able, he is able
He is willing, doubt no more

Come ye needy, come, and welcome
God’s free bounty glorify
True belief and true repentance
Every grace that brings you nigh

Without money, without money
Come to Jesus Christ and buy

Come, ye weary, heavy laden
Bruised and broken by the fall
If you tarry ’til you’re better
You will never come at all

Not the righteous, not the righteous
Sinners Jesus came to call

Let not conscience make you linger
Nor of fitness fondly dream
All the fitness he requires
Is to feel your need of him

This he gives you, this he gives you
‘Tis the Spirit’s rising beam

Lo! The incarnate God, ascended
Pleads the merit of his blood
Venture on him, venture wholly
Let no other trust intrude

None but Jesus, none but Jesus
Can do helpless sinners good

You are my glory and you lift my head
You always answer when I call your name
You are my God and I will ever sing

How awesome is the Lord most high

We will praise you together
For now and forever
How awesome is the Lord most high

A Confession of Faith
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

—The Apostle’s Creed

* ‘Catholic’ is the historic word meaning ‘universal’ – it therefore refers to the entirety of believers throughout history.

All the Poor and Powerless
All the poor and powerless
And all the lost and lonely
And all the thieves will come confess
And know that you are holy
And know that you are holy

And all will sing out hallelujah
And we will cry out hallelujah

All the hearts who are content
And all who feel unworthy
And all who hurt with nothing left
Will know that you are holy

And all will sing out hallelujah
And we will cry out hallelujah

Shout it
Go on and sing it from the mountains
Go on and tell it to the masses
That he is God

Shout it
Go on and sing it from the mountains
Go on and tell it to the masses
That he is God

And all will sing out hallelujah
And we will cry out hallelujah

And all will sing out hallelujah
And we will cry out hallelujah

Sermon
“The New Wine”
Acts 2:1-13

Prayer of Confession
Oh God, whom do we have in heaven or earth but you?
Your compassion is unceasing, and you do not treat our sins as they deserve.
Have mercy on us. Forgive and cleanse us.
Pour out your Spirit, fill your Church and our hearts with power.
Take us beyond the limits of our fear,
and strengthen us to trust you with our weakness.
Cause the love of Christ to unite us as one.
Enable us to live obediently in your delight.
Soften our hearts for the broken,
the lost, the weary and the doubting.
Deepen our desire to care for this world
you created to be good.
That the life of Christ would be our life,
until He comes and makes all things new.
Through Jesus. Amen.

The Lord’s Supper

How Deep the Father’s Love For Us
How deep the Father’s love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That he should give his only Son
To make a wretch his treasure

How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns his face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One Bring many sons to glory

Behold a man upon a cross
My sin upon his shoulders
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers

It was my sin that held him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from his reward
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

Welcome & Announcements

Call to Worship
Worthy of praise from every mouth,
Worthy of confession from every tongue,
Worthy of worship from every creature,
Is your glorious name, O Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

For you created the world in your grace,
And by your compassion you saved the world.

To your majesty, O God,
Ten thousand times ten thousand bow down and adore,
Singing and praising without ceasing, and saying:

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts;
Heaven and earth are full of your praises.
Hosanna in the highest.

— 5th century Nestorian Liturgy

How Firm a Foundation
How firm a foundation
Ye saints of the Lord
Is laid for your faith
In his excellent Word

What more can he say
Than to you he hath said
To you, who for refuge
To Jesus have fled

Fear not, I am with thee
O be not dismayed
For I am thy God
And will still give thee aid

I’ll strengthen thee, help thee
And cause thee to stand
Upheld by my righteous
Omnipotent hand

When through the deep waters
I call thee to go
The rivers of woe
Shall not thee overflow

For I will be with thee
Thy troubles to bless
And sanctify to thee
Thy deepest distress

When through fiery trials
Thy pathways shall lie
My grace, all sufficient
Shall be thy supply

The flame shall not hurt thee
I only design
Thy dross to consume
And thy gold to refine

The soul that on Jesus
Hath leaned for repose
I will not, I will not
Desert to its foes

That soul, though all hell
Should endeavor to shake
I’ll never, no never
No never forsake

John Rippon’s Selection of Hymns, 1787, alt. Tune, FOUNDATION, American folk hymn

Your Grace Is Enough
Great is Your faithfulness, O God
You wrestle with the sinner’s heart
You lead us by still waters and to mercy
And nothing can keep us apart

So remember Your people
Remember Your children
Remember Your promise, O God

Your grace is enough
Your grace is enough
Your grace is enough for me

Great is your love and justice God
You use the weak to lead the strong
You lead us in the song of your salvation
And all your people sing along

So remember Your people
Remember Your children
Remember Your promise, O God

Your grace is enough
Your grace is enough
Your grace is enough for me
(repeat)

So remember Your people
Remember Your children
Remember Your promise, O God

Your grace is enough
Your grace is enough
Your grace is enough for me

Your grace is enough
I’m covered in your love
Your grace is enough for me, for me

Gifts — You Have Redeemed My Soul
You have redeemed my soul from the pit of emptiness
You have redeemed my soul from death, from death

I was a hungry child, a dried up river
I was a burned out forest
And no one could do anything for me
But you put food in my body, water in my dry bed
And to my blackened branches
You brought the springtime green
Of new life, of new life

You have redeemed my soul from the pit of emptiness
You have redeemed my soul from death, from death

You have redeemed my soul

I was a hungry child, a dried up river
I was a burned out forest
And no one could do anything for me
But you put food in my body, water in my dry bed
And to my blackened branches
You brought the springtime green
Of new life, of new life

You have redeemed my soul from the pit of emptiness
You have redeemed my soul from death, from death
You have redeemed my soul from the pit of emptiness
You have redeemed my soul from death, from death

A Confession of Faith
We believe in Jesus Christ
Who was of David’s line, born of Mary,
Who was truly born, ate and drank;
Was truly persecuted under Pontius Pilate,
Truly crucified and died while those in heaven,
On earth, and under the earth beheld it;
Who also was truly raised from the dead,
The Father having raised him,
Who in like manner will raise us also who believe in him –
His Father, I say, will raise us in Christ Jesus,
Apart from whom we have not true life.

—Ignatius of Antioch, 110 AD

Uncreated One
Holy uncreated One
Your beauty fills the skies
But the glory of your majesty
Is the mercy in your eyes

Worthy uncreated One
From heaven to earth come down
You laid aside your royalty
To wear the sinner’s crown

O great God, be glorified
Our lives laid down, yours magnified
O great God, be lifted high
There is none like you

Jesus Savior, God’s own Son
Risen reigning Lord
Sustainer of the universe
By the power of your word

O great God, be glorified
Our lives laid down, yours magnified
O great God, be lifted high
There is none like you

And when we see your matchless face
In speechless awe we’ll stand
And there we’ll bow with grateful hearts
Unto the great I AM

O great God, be glorified
Our lives laid down, yours magnified
O great God, be lifted high
There is none like you

Lord, I need you, O I need you
Every hour I need you
My one defense, my righteousness
O God how I need you

My one defense, my righteousness
O God how I need you

Sermon
“Believing God Will Come Through Waiting on the Spirit”
Acts 1:15-26

Prayer of Confession
Merciful God and Loving Father,
‘You have made us for Yourself,
And our hearts are restless,
Until they find their rest in You.’
Forgive us from the sins we are aware of,
And those we don’t see in ourselves.
Cleanse us within and renew our spirits.
Free us from the tyranny of self,
And our daily struggle with unbelief.
Fill our hearts with Rest.
And cause us to find joy and delight,
In following Christ, loving one another,
And in serving this world you created to be good.
Through Jesus. Amen.

The Lord’s Supper

Dear Refuge Of My Weary Soul
Dear refuge of my weary soul
On thee, when sorrows rise
On thee, when waves of trouble roll
My fainting hope relies

To thee I tell each rising grief
For thou alone canst heal
Thy word can bring a sweet relief
For every pain I feel

But oh! When gloomy doubts prevail
I fear to call thee mine
The springs of comfort seem to fail
And all my hopes decline

Yet gracious God, where shall I flee
Thou art my only trust
And still my soul would cleave to thee Though prostrate in the dust

Hast thou not bid me seek thy face
And shall I seek in vain
And can the ear of sovereign grace
Be deaf when I complain

No still the ear of sovereign grace
Attends the mourner’s prayer
O may I ever find access
To breathe my sorrows there

Thy mercy seat is open still
Here let my soul retreat
With humble hope attend thy will
And wait beneath thy feet

Thy mercy seat is open still
Here let my soul retreat
With humble hope attend thy will
And wait beneath thy feet

Call to Worship
Great and marvelous are your deeds,
Lord God Almighty!

Just and true are your ways,
King of the ages.

Who will not fear you, O Lord,
and bring glory to your name?

For you alone are holy.
All nations will come and worship you!

—from Revelation 15:3-4, NIV

O For a Thousand Tongues
O, for a thousand tongues to sing
My great Redeemer’s praise
The glories of my God and King
The triumphs of his grace

Jesus, the name that charms our fears
That bids our sorrows cease
‘Tis music in the sinner’s ears
‘Tis life and health and peace

He breaks the power of cancelled sin
He sets the prisoners free
His blood can make the foulest clean
His blood availed for me

He speaks and listening to his voice
New life the dead receive
The mournful broken hearts rejoice
The humble poor believe

My gracious Master and my God
Assist me to proclaim
To spread through all the earth abroad
The honors of thy name

Enough
All of you is more than enough for all of me
For ev’ry thirst and ev’ry need
You satisfy me with your love
And all I have in you is more than enough

You are my supply, my breath of life
Still more awesome than I know
You are my reward, worth living for
Still more awesome than I know

All of you is more than enough for all of me
For ev’ry thirst and ev’ry need
You satisfy me with your love
And all I have in you is more than enough

You’re my sacrifice of greatest price
Still more awesome than I know
You’re my coming King, you are ev’rything
Still more awesome than I know

All of you is more than enough for all of me
For ev’ry thirst and ev’ry need
You satisfy me with your love
And all I have in you…

More than all I want
More than all I need
You are more than enough for me

More than all I know
More than all I can say
You are more than enough

All of you is more than enough for all of me
For ev’ry thirst and ev’ry need
You satisfy me with your love

A Responsive Reading – Isaiah 40:28-31
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.

He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.

He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.

Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted;

But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;

They shall mount up with wings like eagles;

They shall run and not be weary;

They shall walk and not faint.

God You Reign
You paint the night
You count the stars
And you call them by name
The skies proclaim, ‘God you reign’

Your glory shines
You teach the sun
When to bring a new day
Creation sings, ‘God you reign’

God you reign
God you reign
Forever and ever
God you reign

You part the seas
You move the mountains
With the words that you say
My song remains, ‘God you reign’

You hold my life
You know my heart
And you call me by name
I live to say, ‘God you reign’

God you reign
God you reign
Forever and ever
God you reign

Hallelujah, hallelu
Hallelujah, hallelu

Hallelujah, hallelu
Hallelujah, hallelu

God you reign
God you reign
Forever and ever
God you reign

God you reign
God you reign

The Lord’s Supper

Jesus Died My Soul to Save
I stand amazed at your love for me
That lonely night in Gethsemane
This sinner’s heart can’t help but thrill
To hear you pray, “Father, not my will”

What depth of love, what reach of grace
O, how my grateful heart now aches
To sing it louder, the refrain
Jesus died my soul to save

Atonement full, applied to me
The blood that spilled at Calvary
Has swallowed all my sin and shame
I’m reconciled, in Jesus’ name

What depth of love, what reach of grace
O, how my grateful heart now aches
To sing it louder, the refrain
Jesus died my soul to save

O such pleasure, O such pain
The Father’s wrath and fury laid
On Christ whom saints and angels praise
Jesus died my soul to save

Come you broken, bound by sin
And let your weary journey end
Come and lay your burdens down
Where mercy rules and peace abounds

What depth of love, what reach of grace
O, how my grateful heart now aches
To sing it louder, the refrain
Jesus died my soul to save
Jesus died my soul to save

Call to Worship
Oh come, let us sing to the Lord!
Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving;
let us shout joyfully to him with psalms.

For the Lord is the great God,
and the great King above all gods.

In his hand are the deep places of the earth;
the heights of the hills are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it;
and his hands formed the dry land.

Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.

For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pasture,
and the sheep of his hand.

—Psalm 95:1-7 (NKJV)

I Will Call Upon the Lord
The Lord liveth and blessed be my Rock
And let the God of my salvation be exalted

I will call upon the Lord
(I will call upon the Lord)
Who is worthy to be praised

Nothing But the Blood
What can wash away my sin
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
What can make me whole again
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

O, precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow

Nothing but the blood of Jesus
For my cleansing, this my plea
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

O, precious is the flow

Nothing but the blood of Jesus

Nothing can for sin atone
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
Naught of good that I have done
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

O, precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow
No other fount I know
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

This is all my hope and peace
Nothing but the blood of Jesus

A Confession of the Church

What do you believe about the church of Christ?

We believe and confess
one single catholic or universal church—
a holy congregation and gathering
of true Christian believers.
This holy church is not confined,
bound, or limited to a certain place or certain persons.
But it is spread and dispersed
throughout the entire world,
though still joined and united
in heart and will,
in one and the same Spirit,
by the power of faith.

—from Belgic Confession, Art. 27

How Great is Our God
The splendor of a King
Clothed in majesty
Let all the earth rejoice
All the earth rejoice

He wraps himself in light
And darkness tries to hide
And trembles at his voice
And trembles at his voice

How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God

Age to age he stands
And time is in his hands
Beginning and the End
Beginning and the End

The Godhead, three in one
Father, Spirit, Son
The Lion and the Lamb
The Lion and the Lamb

How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God

Name above all names
Worthy of all praise
My heart will sing
How great is our God

Then sings my soul
My Savior God, to thee
How great thou art
How great thou art
(repeat)

How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God

Sermon
“What are We Doing Here? Waiting on the Spirit”
Acts 1:1-12

Prayer of Confession
“I wait for the LORD, my soul waits,
and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord
more than watchmen for the morning.”

Have mercy on us, O God.
Forgive our many sins.
Wash us and make us clean.
Send your Spirit to fill us, teach us to wait on you,
with willing and obedient hearts.
Grant us grace to trust you as you work,
even when our hearts feel desperate, and our spirits are weak.
Forgive when we rely on our own strength and refuse to rely on you.
Strengthen us by your Spirit,
and empower us to be the Church
to a World in need of your transforming grace.
Through Jesus. Amen.

Be Thou My Vision
Be thou my vision
O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me
Save that thou art

Thou my best thought
By day or by night
Waking or sleeping
Thy presence my light

Be thou my wisdom
And thou my true word
I ever with thee
And thou with me, Lord

Thou my great Father
I thy true son
Thou in me dwelling
And I with thee one

Riches I heed not
Nor man’s empty praise
Thou mine inheritance
Now and always

Thou and thou only
First in my heart
High King of heaven
My treasure thou art

High King of heaven
My victory won
May I reach heaven’s joys
O bright heav’ns Son

Heart of my own heart
Whatever befall
Still be my vision
O ruler of all
