Welcome & Announcements

Call to Worship
I will praise you with the harp
for your faithfulness, O my God;
I will sing praises to you with the lyre,
O Holy One of Israel.

My lips will shout for joy,
when I sing praises to you;
my soul also, which you have redeemed.

—Psalm 71:22-23 (ESV)

Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee
Joyful, joyful we adore thee
God of glory, Lord of love
Hearts unfold like flowers before thee
Opening to the sun above

Melt the clouds of sin and sadness
Drive the dark of doubt away
Giver of immortal gladness
Fill us with the light of day

All thy works with joy surround thee
Earth and heav’n reflect thy rays
Stars and angels sing around thee
Center of unbroken praise

Field and forest, vale and mountain
Flowery meadow, flashing sea
Chanting bird and flowing fountain
Call us to rejoice in thee

Thou art giving and forgiving
Ever blessing, ever blessed
Wellspring of the joy of living
Ocean depth of happy rest

Thou our Father, Christ our Brother
All who live in love are thine
Teach us how to love each other
Lift us to the joy divine

Mortals join the mighty chorus
Which the morning stars began
Father love is reigning o’er us
Brother love binds man to man

Ever singing march we onward
Victors in the midst of strife
Joyful music leads us sunward
In the triumph song of life

Henry van Dyke Tune HYMN TO JOY, Ludwig van Beethoven; melody from “ Nineth Symphany”; adapted by Edward Hodges, CCLI 241710

O Praise Him
Turn your ear to Heaven
And hear the noise inside
The sound of angels awe
The sound of angels songs

And all this for a King
We could join and sing
All to Christ the King

How constant, how divine
This song of ours will rise
O, how constant how divine
This love of ours will rise, will rise…

O praise him, O praise him
He is holy, he is holy

Turn your gaze to Heaven
And raise a joyous noise
The sound of salvation come
The sound of rescued ones

And all this for a King
Angels join to sing
All for Christ our King

O praise him, O praise him
He is holy, he is holy
(repeat)

How infinite and sweet
This love so rescuing
O, how infinitely sweet
This great love that has redeemed
As one, we sing…

Hallelujah, hallelujah
He is holy, he is holy

O praise him, O praise him
He is holy, he is holy
(repeat)

Prayer for the People, the City, and the Nations

Gifts — My Portion and My Strength
Your voice calmed the wind and the sea
But can you calm these storms inside of me

Help me stand on the promise that you are holding my right hand
Help me to know that even when I lose my grip you won’t let go
Help me believe you will be my portion and my strength

Your voice gave the blind the gift of sight
But can you take my darkness and turn it into light

Help me stand on the promise that you are holding my right hand
Help me to know that even when I lose my grip you won’t let go
Help me believe you will be my portion and my strength

Your voice called a man out of the grave
Can you breathe new life into this mess I’ve made

Help me believe you will be my portion
and my strength
Help me believe you will be my portion
and my strength

Affirmation of Faith
The Cross is the hope of Christians
The Cross is the resurrection of the dead
The Cross is the way of the lost
The Cross is the savior of the lost
The Cross is the staff of the lame
The Cross is the guide of the blind
The Cross is the strength of the weak
The Cross is the doctor of the sick
The Cross is the aim of the priests
The Cross is the hope of the hopeless
The Cross is the freedom of the slaves
The Cross is the power of the kings
The Cross is the water of the seeds
The Cross is the consolation of the bondmen
The Cross is the source of those who seek water
The Cross is the cloth of the naked.
We thank you, Father, for the Cross.

—10th Century African Hymn

Uncreated One
Holy uncreated One
Your beauty fills the skies
But the glory of your majesty
Is the mercy in your eyes

Worthy uncreated One
From heaven to earth come down
You laid aside your royalty
To wear the sinner’s crown

O great God, be glorified
Our lives laid down, yours magnified
O great God, be lifted high
There is none like you

Jesus Savior, God’s own Son
Risen reigning Lord
Sustainer of the universe
By the power of your word

O great God, be glorified
Our lives laid down, yours magnified
O great God, be lifted high
There is none like you

And when we see your matchless face
In speechless awe we’ll stand
And there we’ll bow with grateful hearts
Unto the great I AM

O great God, be glorified
Our lives laid down, yours magnified
O great God, be lifted high
There is none like you

Lord, I need you, O I need you
Every hour I need you
My one defense, my righteousness
O God how I need you

My one defense, my righteousness
O God how I need you

Sermon
“Living in the Father’s Vision”
Matthew 6:5-10

Prayer of Confession
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the Kingdom,
and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen

The Lord’s Supper

Lord I Need You
Lord I come, I confess
Bowing here I find my rest
Without you, I fall apart
You’re the one that guides my heart

Lord, I need you, O I need you
Every hour I need you
My one defense, my righteousness
O God how I need you

Where sin runs deep, your grace is more
Where grace is found is where you are
And where you are Lord, I am free
Holiness is Christ in me

Lord, I need you, O I need you
Every hour I need you
My one defense, my righteousness
O God how I need you

Teach my song to rise to you
When temptation comes my way
And when I cannot stand I’ll fall on you
Jesus, you’re my hope and stay

Lord, I need you, O I need you
Every hour I need you
My one defense, my righteousness
O God how I need you

You’re my one defense, my righteousness
O God how I need you
