Welcome & Announcements

Call to Worship
May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face to shine upon us,
that your way may be known on earth,
your saving power among all nations.

Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you!

—Psalm 67:1-3

O the Deep, Deep, Love of Jesus
O the deep, deep love of Jesus
Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free
Rolling as a mighty ocean
In its fullness over me

Underneath me, all around me
Is the current of thy love
Leading onward, leading homeward
To thy glorious rest above

O the deep, deep love of Jesus
Spread his praise from shore to shore
How he loveth, ever loveth
Changeth never, never more

How he watches o’er his loved ones
Died to call them all his own
How for them he intercedeth
Watcheth o’er them from the throne

O the deep, deep love of Jesus
Love of every love the best
’Tis an ocean vast of blessing
‘Tis a haven sweet of rest

O the deep, deep love of Jesus
‘Tis a heaven of heavens to me
And it lifts me up to glory
For it lifts me up to thee

Underneath me, all around me
Is the current of thy love
Leading onward, leading homeward
To thy glorious rest above

King of Glory
Lift up your gaze, be lifted up
Tell everyone how great the love
The love come down from heaven’s gate
To kiss the earth with hope and grace

Sing, who is this King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty

Lift up your hands, be lifted up
Let the redeemed declare the love
We bow down at heaven’s gate
To kiss the feet of hope and grace

Sing, who is this King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty

There is one God, he is holy
There is one Lord over everything
There is one King, he is Jesus
King of glory, strong and mighty

You are the King of glory
The Lord, strong and mighty
You are the King of glory
The Lord, strong and mighty

You are the King of glory
The Lord, strong and mighty
You are the King of glory
The Lord, strong and mighty

A Statement of Faith
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the pledge of God’s coming reign,
who gives the Church power
to proclaim the Good News to all the world,
to love and serve all people,
to strive for justice and peace
to warn the individual and the nation of God’s judgment
and to summon them both to repent
and trust and obey Jesus Christ
as the one King who will come again in glory.

Sermon
“Wake Up! The Toxin of Christian Indifference”
Jonah 1:1-6

Prayer of Confession
‘Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity
and passing over transgression?’
‘You do not remain angry forever,
because you delight in steadfast love.’
Be merciful and forgive our sin, Father.
Thank you for the atoning sacrifice of Christ,
who died on our behalf and bore our sin,
that we might be reconciled to you.
Give us hearts of gratitude that embody
the gospel to one another and the world
that you created to be good.
Through Jesus. Amen.

The Lord’s Supper

Come Boldly to the Throne of Grace
Come boldly to the throne of grace
Ye wretched sinners come
And lay your load at Jesus’ feet
And plead what he has done

How can I come, some soul may say
I’m lame and cannot walk
My guilt and sin have stopped my mouth
I sigh, but dare not talk

Come boldly to the throne of grace
Though lost, and blind, and lame
Jehovah is the sinner’s friend
And ever was the same

He makes the dead to hear his voice
He makes the blind to see
The sinner lost he came to save
And set the prisoner free

Come boldly to the throne of grace
For Jesus fills the throne
And those he kills he makes alive
He hears the sigh or groan

Poor bankrupt souls, who feel and know
The hell of sin within
Come boldly to the throne of grace
The Lord will take you in, take you in

Welcome & Announcements

Call to Worship
I will bless the Lord at all times—
his praise will always be on my lips.

My soul will rejoice in the Lord;
let the humble hear it and rejoice.

Come, glorify our God with me.
Let us exalt his name together!

—Psalm 34:1-3

And Can It Be
And can it be that I should gain
An interest in the Savior’s blood
Died he for me who caused his pain
For me who him to death pursued

Amazing love! How can it be
That thou, my God, should die for me

He left his Father’s throne above
So free, so infinite his grace
Emptied himself of all but love
And bled for Adam’s helpless race

’Tis mercy all, immense and free
For O my God, it found out me

Amazing love! How can it be
That thou, my God, should die for me
(repeat)

Long my imprisoned spirit lay
Fast bound in sin and nature’s night
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray
I woke, the dungeon flamed with light

My chains fell off, my heart was free
I rose, went forth, and followed thee

Amazing love! How can it be
That thou, my God, should die for me
(repeat)

No condemnation now I dread
Jesus, and all in him, is mine
Alive in him, my living head
And clothed in righteousness divine

Bold I approach the eternal throne
And claim the crown, through Christ my own

Amazing love! How can it be
That thou, my God, should die for me
(repeat)

Love the Lord
Love the Lord your God
With all your heart
With all your soul
With all your mind and

With all your heart
With all your soul
With all your mind
With all your strength

Love the Lord your God
With all your heart
With all your soul
With all your mind and
With all your strength

I will serve the Lord
With all my heart
With all my soul
With all my mind and
With all my strength
(repeat)

With all my heart
With all my soul
With all my mind
With all my strength

I will serve the Lord
With all my heart
With all my soul
With all my mind and
With all my strength

With all my heart
With all my soul
With all my mind and
With all my strength

A Statement of Faith
We believe in Jesus Christ
who was of David’s line, born of Mary,
who was truly born, ate and drank;
was truly persecuted under Pontius Pilate,
truly crucified and died while those in heaven,
on earth, and under the earth beheld it;
who also was truly raised from the dead,
the Father having raised him,
who in like manner will raise us also who believe in him–
his Father, I say, will raise us in Christ Jesus,
apart from whom we have not true life.

—Ignatius of Antioch, 110 AD

All the Poor and Powerless
All the poor and powerless
And all the lost and lonely
And all the thieves will come confess
And know that you are holy
And know that you are holy

And all will sing out hallelujah
And we will cry out hallelujah

All the hearts who are content
And all who feel unworthy
And all who hurt with nothing left
Will know that you are holy

And all will sing out hallelujah
And we will cry out hallelujah

Shout it
Go on and sing it from the mountains
Go on and tell it to the masses
That he is God

Shout it
Go on and sing it from the mountains
Go on and tell it to the masses
That he is God

And all will sing out hallelujah
And we will cry out hallelujah

And all will sing out hallelujah
And we will cry out hallelujah

Sermon
“The Incarnational Imperative God’s Radical Response to Evil”
Jonah 1:1-3

Prayer of Confession
Gracious and Loving Father,
forgive and cleanse us from sin.
Where we have been self-seeking, humble us.
Where we have been indifferent, soften us.
Where we have wandered far from you, restore us.
Fill us with your Spirit, and enable us
to love the world you have made to be good,
and care for those who, like us,
are weak and wounded by the fall.
That your glory will be known,
until you make all things new.
Through Jesus. Amen.

The Lord’s Supper

Be Thou My Vision
Be thou my vision
O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me
Save that thou art

Thou my best thought
By day or by night
Waking or sleeping
Thy presence my light

Be thou my wisdom
And thou my true word
I ever with thee
And thou with me, Lord

Thou my great Father
I thy true son
Thou in me dwelling
And I with thee one

Riches I heed not
Nor man’s empty praise
Thou mine inheritance
Now and always

Thou and thou only
First in my heart
High King of heaven
My treasure thou art

High King of heaven
My victory won
May I reach heaven’s joys
O bright heav’ns Son

Heart of my own heart
Whatever befall
Still be my vision
O ruler of all

All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name
All hail the power of Jesus’ name
Let angels prostrate fall
Bring forth the royal diadem
And crown him Lord of all
Bring forth the royal diadem
And crown him Lord of all

Ye chosen seed of Israel’s race
Ye ransomed from the fall
Hail him who saves you by his grace
And crown him Lord of all
Hail him who saves you by his grace
And crown him Lord of all

Let every kindred, every tribe
On this terrestrial ball
To him all majesty ascribe
And crown him Lord of all
To him all majesty ascribe
And crown him Lord of all

O that, with yonder sacred throng
We at his feet may fall
We’ll join the everlasting song
And crown him Lord of all

God You Reign
You paint the night
You count the stars
And you call them by name
The skies proclaim, ‘God you reign’

Your glory shines
You teach the sun
When to bring a new day
Creation sings, ‘God you reign’

God you reign
God you reign
Forever and ever
God you reign

You part the seas
You move the mountains
With the words that you say
My song remains, ‘God you reign’

You hold my life
You know my heart
And you call me by name
I live to say, ‘God you reign’

God you reign
God you reign
Forever and ever
God you reign

Hallelujah, hallelu
Hallelujah, hallelu

Hallelujah, hallelu
Hallelujah, hallelu

God you reign
Forever and ever

Sermon
“Arise or Flee”
Jonah 1:1-3

Prayer of Confession
Loving Father and God,
Have compassion on us.
Be merciful and forgive our many sins.
Cause the care of Jesus, our gentle Shepherd,
To bring healing and restoration where we have erred,
And to those we have wounded.
Settle our restless hearts and silence our rebellious thoughts.
Freshly pour out your Spirit upon us.
Give us hearts that love your Word,
And lives that reflect the gospel in every deed,
And to every person we encounter.
Until you come and make all things new.

Come As You Are
Come out of sadness from wherever you’ve been
Come broken-hearted, let rescue begin
Come find your mercy, O sinner come kneel
Earth has no sorrow that heaven can’t heal
Earth has no sorrow that heaven can’t heal

So lay down your burdens, lay down your shame
All who are broken, lift up your face
O wanderer come home, you’re not too far
So lay down your hurt, lay down your heart

Come as you are

There’s hope for the hopeless
And all those who’ve strayed
Come sit at the table, come taste the grace
There’s rest for the weary, rest that endures
Earth has no sorrow that heaven can’t cure

So lay down your burdens, lay down your shame
All who are broken, lift up your face
O wanderer come home, you’re not too far
So lay down your hurt, lay down your heart

Come as you are

There’s joy for the morning, O sinner be still
Earth has no sorrow that heaven can’t heal
Earth has no sorrow that heaven can’t heal

So lay down your burdens, lay down your shame
All who are broken, lift up your face

There is rest for thee
At the feet of Jesus
In his love so free

Come to me, come and rest

All thy guilt and sin

Rise up and enter

Patiently for thee
Hear him gently calling

Baptisms
The children being presented for covenant baptism this morning are Elder Falconer Fauth and Herbert Antonio Fauth, covenant sons of Fred and Kim Fauth.

A Profession of Faith
Do you believe in God the Father?

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God?

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to hell. On the third day he rose again from the dead;
He ascended to heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy *catholic church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

—based on Apostles’ Creed

*‘Catholic’ is the historic word meaning ‘universal’ – it therefore refers to the entirety of believers throughout history.

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty
Praise to the Lord
The Almighty, the King of creation
O my soul, praise him
For he is thy health and salvation

All ye who hear
Now to his temple draw near
Praise him in glad adoration

Praise to the Lord
Who o’er all things so wondrously reigneth
Shelters thee under his wings
Yea, so gently sustaineth

Hast thou not seen
How thy desires e’er have been
Granted in what he ordaineth

Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah

Praise to the Lord
Who doth prosper thy work and defend thee
Surely his goodness and mercy
Here daily attend thee

Ponder anew
What the Almighty can do
If with his love he befriend thee

Praise to the Lord
O let all that is in me adore him
All that hath life and breath
Come now with praises before him

Let the ‘amen’
Sound from his people again
Gladly for aye we adore him

Let the ‘amen’
Sound from his people again
Gladly for aye we adore him

Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah

Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah

Mercy
I will kneel in the dust at the foot of the cross
Where mercy paid for me
Where the wrath I deserve — it is gone, it has passed
Your blood has hidden me

Mercy, mercy as endless as the sea
I’ll sing your hallelujah for all eternity

We will lift up the cup and the bread we will break
Remembering your love
We are fallen from grace but you take all our shame
And nail it to a cross

Mercy, mercy as endless as the sea
I’ll sing your hallelujah for all eternity

Mercy, mercy as endless as the sea
I’ll sing your hallelujah for all eternity

May I never lose the wonder
O the wonder of your mercy
May I sing your hallelujah
Hallelujah, amen

May I never lose the wonder
O the wonder of your mercy
May I sing your hallelujah
Hallelujah, amen

May I never lose the wonder
O the wonder of your mercy
May I sing your hallelujah
