Welcome & Announcements

Call to Worship
Praise the LORD, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will.
Praise the LORD, all his works everywhere in his dominion.
Praise the LORD, O my soul.

—Psalm 103:21-22 (NIV)

I Sing the Mighty Power of God
I sing the mighty power of God
That made the mountains rise
That spread the flowing seas abroad
And built the lofty skies

I sing the wisdom that ordained
The sun to rule the day
The moon shines full at his command
And all the stars obey

I sing the goodness of the Lord
Who filled the earth with food
Who formed the creatures with his Word
And then pronounced them good

Lord, how thy wonders are displayed
Where’er I turn my eye
If I survey the ground I tread
Or gaze upon the sky

There’s not a plant or flower below
But makes thy glories known
And clouds arise, and tempests blow
By order from thy throne

While all that borrows life from thee
Is ever in thy care
And everywhere that man can be
Thou, God art present there

Isaac Watts, altered Tune, ELLACOMBE, from Gesangbuch der Herzogl, Württemberg, 1784

O Praise Him
Turn your ear to Heaven
And hear the noise inside
The sound of angels awe
The sound of angels songs

And all this for a King
We could join and sing
All to Christ the King

How constant, how divine
This song of ours will rise
O, how constant how divine
This love of ours will rise, will rise…

O praise him, O praise him
He is holy, he is holy

Turn your gaze to Heaven
And raise a joyous noise
The sound of salvation come
The sound of rescued ones

And all this for a King
Angels join to sing
All for Christ our King

O praise him, O praise him
He is holy, he is holy
(repeat)

How infinite and sweet
This love so rescuing
O, how infinitely sweet
This great love that has redeemed
As one, we sing…

Hallelujah, hallelujah
He is holy, he is holy

O praise him, O praise him
He is holy, he is holy
(repeat)

Prayer for the People, the City, and the Nations

Gifts — Lead Us Back
Falling down upon our knees
Sharing now in common shame
We have sought security
Not the cross that bears your name

Fences guard our hearts and homes
Comfort sings a siren tune
We’re a valley of dry bones
Lead us back to life in you

Lord we fall upon our knees
We have shunned the weak and poor
Worshipped beauty, courted kings
And the things their gold affords

Prayed for those we’d like to know
Favor sings a siren tune
We’ve become a talent show
Lead us back to life in you

You have caused the blind to see
We have blinded them again
With our manmade laws and creeds
Eager ready to condemn

Now we plead before your throne
Power sings a siren tune
We’ve been throwing heavy stones
Lead us back to life in you

We’re a valley of dry bones
Lead us back to life in you
We’ve become a talent show
Lead us back to life in you
We’ve been throwing heavy stones
Lead us back to life in you

Affirmation of the Church’s Calling
“Again Jesus said, ‘Peace be with you!’”

“As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”

Following the apostles, the church is sent—

sent with the gospel of the kingdom
to make disciples of all nations,

to feed the hungry,
and to proclaim the assurance that in the name of Christ
there is forgiveness of sin and new life
for all who repent and believe—

to tell the news that our world belongs to God.

—from John 20:21 (NIV) & Our World Belongs to God, st. 44

Shield About Me
Thou, O Lord, are a shield about me
You’re my glory
You’re the lifter of my head

Thou, O Lord, are a shield about me
You’re my glory
You’re the lifter of my head

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah
You’re the lifter of my head

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah
You’re the lifter of my head

Holy, Holy, Holy
Holy, holy, holy
Lord God Almighty
Early in the morning
Our song shall rise to thee

Holy, holy, holy
Merciful and mighty
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity

Holy, holy, holy
Though the darkness hide thee
Though the eye of sinful man
Thy glory may not see

Only thou art holy
There is none beside thee
Perfect in pow’r, in love, and purity

Holy, holy, holy
Lord God Almighty
All thy works shall praise thy name
In earth, and sky, and sea

Holy, holy, holy
Merciful and mighty
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah
You’re the lifter of my head

Children Dismissed for Children’s Church

Sermon
“The Unbound God”
Acts 10:34-48

Prayer of Confession
Loving Father and tender God,
you made your Son to be a drink offering,
in atoning sacrifice for our sin,
be merciful, and forgive.
Cleanse us from unrighteousness.
Forgive our ingratitude and rebellion.
Make us a merciful people,
and a community, broken and poured out,
that loves tenderly as you have loved us,
to a world in need of your healing grace.
That many will flee to you and live.
Through Jesus. Amen.

The Lord’s Supper

Jesus Died My Soul to Save
I stand amazed at your love for me
That lonely night in Gethsemane
This sinner’s heart can’t help but thrill
To hear you pray, “Father, not my will”

What depth of love, what reach of grace
O, how my grateful heart now aches
To sing it louder, the refrain
Jesus died my soul to save

Atonement full, applied to me
The blood that spilled at Calvary
Has swallowed all my sin and shame
I’m reconciled, in Jesus’ name

What depth of love, what reach of grace
O, how my grateful heart now aches
To sing it louder, the refrain
Jesus died my soul to save

O such pleasure, O such pain
The Father’s wrath and fury laid
On Christ whom saints and angels praise
Jesus died my soul to save

Come you broken, bound by sin
And let your weary journey end
Come and lay your burdens down
Where mercy rules and peace abounds

What depth of love, what reach of grace
O, how my grateful heart now aches
To sing it louder, the refrain
Jesus died my soul to save
Jesus died my soul to save
