Welcome & Announcements

Call to Worship
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;
I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.

I will be glad and exult in you;
I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.

—Psalm 9:1-2

Come Thou Fount
Come, thou fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing thy grace
Streams of mercy, never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise

Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount, I’m fixed upon it
Mount of God’s unchanging love

Here I raise my Ebenezer
Hither by thy help I’m come
And I hope, by thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home

Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wandr’ing from the fold of God
He, to rescue me from danger
Interposed his precious blood

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be
Let that grace now, like a fetter
Bind my wand’ring heart to thee

Prone to wander, Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it
Seal it for thy courts above

O that day, when freed from sinning
I shall see thy lovely face
Clothed then in blood washed linen
How I’ll sing thy sovereign grace

Come, my Lord, no longer tarry
Take my ransomed soul away
Send thine angels, now to carry
Me to realms of endless day

Rejoice
Come and stand before your Maker
Full of wonder, full of fear
Come behold his power and glory
Yet with confidence draw near

For the one who holds the heavens
And commands the stars above
Is the God who bends to bless us
With an unrelenting love

Rejoice!
Come and lift your hands
And raise your voice
He is worthy of all praise

Rejoice!
Sing the mercies of your King
And with trembling, rejoice

We are children of the promise
The beloved of the Lord
Won with everlasting kindness
Bought with sacrificial blood

Bringing reconciliation
To a world that longs to know
The affections of a Father
Who will never let them go

Rejoice!
Come and lift your hands
And raise your voice
He is worthy of all praise

Rejoice!
Sing the mercies of your King
And with trembling, rejoice

All our sickness, all our sorrows
Jesus carried up the hill
He has walked this path before us
He is walking with us still

Turning tragedy to triumph
Turning agony to praise
There is blessing in the battle
So take heart and stand amazed

Rejoice!
When you cry to him
He hears your voice
He will wipe away your tears

Rejoice!
In the midst of suffering
He will help you sing…

Rejoice!
Come and lift your hands
And raise your voice
He is worthy of all praise

Rejoice!
Sing the mercies of your King
And with trembling, rejoice

Prayer for the People, the City, and the Nations

Gifts — Great and Mighty King
Your love has rescued us
The cross delivered all our hearts from fear
Our hope is here

You came to make a way
Jesus, you came to raise the dead to life
Our song will rise

O great and mighty King, you reign in majesty
Before your throne we sing holy, holy
O great and mighty King, for all eternity
We bow with heaven and sing holy, holy

What do we have to bring
This is our offering, our hearts before
The risen Lord

All power in your name
Jesus, the One who saves, be lifted high
Our song will rise

O great and mighty King, you reign in majesty
Before your throne we sing holy, holy
O great and mighty King, for all eternity
We bow with heaven and sing holy, holy

Your glory fills this place, we shout unending praise
Forever hallelujah, forever hallelujah

Your glory fills this place, we shout unending praise
Forever hallelujah, forever hallelujah

Your glory fills this place, we shout unending praise
Forever hallelujah, forever hallelujah

Your glory fills this place, we shout unending praise
Forever hallelujah, forever hallelujah

O great and mighty King, you reign in majesty
Before your throne we sing holy, holy
O great and mighty King, for all eternity
We bow with heaven and sing holy, holy

A Confession of Faith
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord…

We testify that Jesus is not only our Savior, but also our King.
And that all creation is subject to his rule.

And believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead…

Not only with our minds, but also in the depths of our hearts,
we believe that Jesus died, and rose from the dead,
and that he is making all things new.
We therefore trust him with our lives.

You will be saved.

Saved from our selves

Saved from sin’s power

Saved from humanity’s injustice

Saved from guilt’s misery

Saved from death’s grip.

What does this mean for those who follow Jesus?

We have surrendered our lives, our wills and futures to him.

How does this assure us?

Whenever life overwhelms us, we remember
that Jesus is Ruler over all things.
Whenever shame threatens to paralyze,
we call to mind our Father who has forgiven our sin.
Whenever this world discourages us, we hear the voice of the Spirit
who assures us that we are God’s children. Amen.

Praise the Father, Praise the Son
O sovereign God, O matchless King
The saints adore, the angels sing
And fall before the throne of grace
To you belongs the highest praise

These sufferings, this passing tide
Under your wings I will abide
And every enemy shall flee
You are my hope and victory

Praise the Father, praise the Son
Praise the Spirit, Three in One
Clothed in power, and in grace
The name above all other names

To the valley for my soul
Your great descent has made me whole
Your word my heart has welcomed home
Now peace like water ever flows

O praise the Father, praise the Son
Praise the Spirit, Three in One
Clothed in power, and in grace
The name above all other names

Yours is the kingdom
Yours is the power
Yours is the glory, forever

Yours is the kingdom
Yours is the power
Yours is the glory, forever

Praise the Father, praise the Son
Praise the Spirit, Three in One
Clothed in power, and in grace
The name above all other names
The name above all other names

Sermon
“The Drama of Jesus”
Acts 15:1-21

Prayer of Confession
Gracious Father and loving God,
forgive our sins, and cleanse our hearts.
Fill us with hope where there has been despair,
compassion where there has been indifference,
and faith where there has been unbelief,
help us to live in reliance upon your grace.
Protect us from growing silent to your voice,
and callous to your convictions.
Strengthen us to love one another,
and inspire us to love one another
and your good but broken world,
as you have loved us.
Through Jesus. Amen

The Lord’s Supper

In Christ Alone
In Christ alone, my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My comforter, my all in all
Here in the love of Christ I stand

In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones he came to save

‘Til on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live

There in the ground his body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave he rose again

And as he stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am his and he is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny

No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from his hand
‘Til he returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand
