Welcome & Announcements

Call to Worship
We are here to worship God.
The love of God welcomes us.
The grace of Christ awaits us.
The joy of the Spirit enfolds us.

We do not come as slaves, for we are truly free.
We do not come as intruders, for we are invited guests.
We do not come as outsiders, for we are much-wanted children.
The love of God emboldens us.
The grace of Christ redeems us.
The joy of the Spirit uplifts us.

Therefore, come as joyful, eager, thankful recipients of amazing grace.
The love of God overflows our hearts.
The grace of Christ liberates our spirits.
The joy of the Spirit sings in our minds.

Amazing Grace
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now am found
Was blind, but now I see

Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come
Tis grace has brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home

When we’ve been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we first begun

John Newton, 1779; Tune, AMAZING GRACE, traditional American melody

How Firm a Foundation
How firm a foundation
Ye saints of the Lord
Is laid for your faith
In his excellent Word

What more can he say
Than to you he hath said
To you, who for refuge
To Jesus have fled

Fear not, I am with thee
O be not dismayed
For I am thy God
And will still give thee aid

I’ll strengthen thee, help thee
And cause thee to stand
Upheld by my righteous
Omnipotent hand

When through the deep waters
I call thee to go
The rivers of woe
Shall not thee overflow

For I will be with thee
Thy troubles to bless
And sanctify to thee
Thy deepest distress

When through fiery trials
Thy pathways shall lie
My grace, all sufficient
Shall be thy supply

The flame shall not hurt thee
I only design
Thy dross to consume
And thy gold to refine

The soul that on Jesus
Hath leaned for repose
I will not, I will not
Desert to its foes

That soul, though all hell
Should endeavor to shake
I’ll never, no never
No never forsake

John Rippon’s Selection of Hymns, 1787, alt. Tune, FOUNDATION, American folk hymn

Open Up Our Eyes
Greater is the One who’s in us
Greater is the One who calls our name
He will never fail

Stronger is the One within us
Stronger is the One who fights for us
He will never fail, you will never fail

For your love endures forever
Oh, your love endures forever
Open up our eyes, surround us with your light
Your love endures forever

Mighty is the One who’s for us
Mighty is the One who’s strong to save
He will make a way, you will make a way

For your love endures forever
Oh, your love endures forever
Open up our eyes, surround us with your light
Your love endures forever

Our God is fighting for us always
Our God is fighting for us all
Our God is fighting for us always
We are not alone, we are not alone
We are not alone, we are not alone

For your love endures forever
Oh, your love endures forever
Open up our eyes, surround us with your light
Your love endures forever

Our God is fighting for us always
Our God is fighting for us all
Our God is fighting for us always
We are not alone, we are not alone
We are not alone, we are not alone

God You Reign
You paint the night
You count the stars
And you call them by name
The skies proclaim, ‘God you reign’

Your glory shines
You teach the sun
When to bring a new day
Creation sings, ‘God you reign’

God you reign
God you reign
Forever and ever
God you reign

You part the seas
You move the mountains
With the words that you say
My song remains, ‘God you reign’

You hold my life
You know my heart
And you call me by name
I live to say, ‘God you reign’

God you reign
God you reign
Forever and ever
God you reign

Hallelujah, hallelu
Hallelujah, hallelu

Hallelujah, hallelu
Hallelujah, hallelu

God you reign
God you reign
Forever and ever
God you reign

God you reign
God you reign
Forever and ever
God you reign

God you reign
God you reign
Forever and ever
God you reign

Sermon
“For He is Kind — ‘Love Your Enemies’”
Luke 6:27-36

Prayer of Confession
Holy God and tender Father,
your wonders are too many to number.
Your redemption is beautiful.
Your grace is healing.
While we were still your enemies,
in love, you sent Jesus to die for us.
Be merciful and forgive our sin.
Enable us to love those who don’t love us,
to serve those who don’t care about us,
and to give to those who offer nothing in return,
that the life of Christ may be known and seen,
until he returns and makes all things new.
Through Jesus. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon
Jesus was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God.

— Romans 4:25 – 5:1

The Lord’s Supper

O Come to the Altar
Are you hurting and broken within
Overwhelmed by the weight of your sin
Jesus is calling

Have you come to the end of yourself
Do you thirst for a drink from the well
Jesus is calling

O come to the altar
The Father’s arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ

Leave behind your regrets and mistakes
Come today, there’s no reason to wait
Jesus is calling

Bring your sorrows and trade them for joy
From the ashes a new life is born
Jesus is calling

O come to the altar
The Father’s arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ

O come to the altar
The Father’s arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ

O what a Savior
Isn’t he wonderful
Sing alleluia
Christ is risen

Bow down before him
For he is Lord of all
Sing alleluia
Christ is risen

O what a Savior
Isn’t he wonderful
Sing alleluia
Christ is risen

Bow down before him
For he is Lord of all
Sing alleluia
Christ is risen

O come to the altar
The Father’s arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ

O come to the altar
The Father’s arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ
