WORSHIP – November 5, 2017

Welcome & Announcements

Call to Worship
Since, then, we have a great high priest
who has passed through the heavens,
Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession.
For we do not have a high priest
who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses,
but we have one who in every respect
has been tested as we are, yet without sin.
Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness,
so that we may receive mercy
and find grace to help in time of need.

—Hebrews 4:14-16

Come Boldly to the Throne of Grace
Come boldly to the throne of grace
Ye wretched sinners come
And lay your load at Jesus’ feet
And plead what he has done

How can I come, some soul may say
I’m lame and cannot walk
My guilt and sin have stopped my mouth
I sigh, but dare not talk

Come boldly to the throne of grace
Though lost, and blind, and lame
Jehovah is the sinner’s friend
And ever was the same

He makes the dead to hear his voice
He makes the blind to see
The sinner lost he came to save
And set the prisoner free

Come boldly to the throne of grace
For Jesus fills the throne
And those he kills he makes alive
He hears the sigh or groan

Poor bankrupt souls, who feel and know
The hell of sin within
Come boldly to the throne of grace
The Lord will take you in, take you in

Leaning on the Everlasting Arms
What a fellowship, what a joy divine
Leaning on the everlasting arms
What a blessedness, what a peace is mine
Leaning on the everlasting arms

Leaning, leaning
Safe and secure from all alarms
Leaning, leaning
Leaning on the everlasting arms

O how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way
Leaning on the everlasting arms
O how bright the path grows from day to day
Leaning on the everlasting arms

Leaning, leaning
Safe and secure from all alarms
Leaning, leaning
Leaning on the everlasting arms

What have I to dread, what have I to fear
Leaning on the everlasting arms
I have blessed peace with my Lord so near
Leaning on the everlasting arms

Leaning, leaning
Safe and secure from all alarms
Leaning, leaning
Leaning on the everlasting arms

Great and Mighty King
Your love has rescued us
The cross delivered all our hearts from fear
Our hope is here

You came to make a way
Jesus, you came to raise the dead to life
Our song will rise

O great and mighty King, you reign in majesty
Before your throne we sing holy, holy
O great and mighty King, for all eternity
We bow with heaven and sing holy, holy

What do we have to bring
This is our offering, our hearts before
The risen Lord

All power in your name
Jesus, the One who saves, be lifted high
Our song will rise

O great and mighty King, you reign in majesty
Before your throne we sing holy, holy
O great and mighty King, for all eternity
We bow with heaven and sing holy, holy

Your glory fills this place
We shout unending praise
Forever hallelujah
Forever hallelujah

Your glory fills this place
We shout unending praise
Forever hallelujah
Forever hallelujah

Your glory fills this place
We shout unending praise
Forever hallelujah
Forever hallelujah

Your glory fills this place
We shout unending praise
Forever hallelujah
Forever hallelujah

O great and mighty King, you reign in majesty
Before your throne we sing holy, holy
O great and mighty King, for all eternity
We bow with heaven and sing holy, holy

Prayer for the People, the City, and the Nations

Gifts — His Name
There’s a Father when your father walks away
A friend when no one else knows your name
A light that shines when all the world goes dark
A hand that holds you when you fall apart

His name is Healer of your deepest scars
Father of your broken heart
His name is Mercy, Power, Freedom
Oh, His name, oh, His name, His name is Jesus

Fear will fall before His mighty hand
Every wall of doubt will start caving in
Tears you cry will turn to victory
The sun will rise, and soon your eyes will see

His name is Healer of your deepest scars
Father of your broken heart
His name is Mercy, Power, Freedom
Oh, His name, oh, His name, His name is Jesus

Nothing is stronger, nothing is stronger
Nothing is stronger than His name

Nothing is stronger, nothing is stronger
Nothing is stronger than His name

Nothing is stronger, nothing is stronger
Nothing is stronger than His name

His name is Healer of your deepest scars
Father of your broken heart
His name is Mercy, Power, Freedom
His name is Mercy, Power, Freedom
His name is Mercy, Power, Freedom
Oh, His name, oh, His name
Oh, His name, oh, His name
His name is Jesus

God You Reign
You paint the night
You count the stars
And you call them by name
The skies proclaim, ‘God you reign’

Your glory shines
You teach the sun
When to bring a new day
Creation sings, ‘God you reign’

God you reign
God you reign
Forever and ever
God you reign

You part the seas
You move the mountains
With the words that you say
My song remains, ‘God you reign’

You hold my life
You know my heart
And you call me by name
I live to say, ‘God you reign’

God you reign
God you reign
Forever and ever
God you reign

Hallelujah, hallelu
Hallelujah, hallelu

Hallelujah, hallelu
Hallelujah, hallelu

God you reign
God you reign
Forever and ever
God you reign

God you reign
God you reign
Forever and ever
God you reign

Prayer of Confession
Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open,
all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden,
we confess our sin in the hope
of receiving your promised forgiveness.
We are slow to give you thanks, quick to judge others,
and swift to claim praise for ourselves.
We are cold to the suffering around us,
and jealous when our neighbor prospers.
Hatred and deceit separate us from you
and from our fellow humans.
But you came in love to bring peace and restore us.
Cleanse our hearts by the power of your Holy Spirit,
that we may love you and serve others,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Sermon
“I Will Go to Him”
2 Samuel 12:15-23

Assurance of Pardon
When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins.

—Colossians 2:13

The Lord’s Supper

Come As You Are
Come out of sadness from wherever you’ve been
Come broken-hearted, let rescue begin
Come find your mercy, O sinner come kneel
Earth has no sorrow that heaven can’t heal
Earth has no sorrow that heaven can’t heal

So lay down your burdens, lay down your shame
All who are broken, lift up your face
O wanderer come home, you’re not too far
So lay down your hurt, lay down your heart

Come as you are

There’s hope for the hopeless
And all those who’ve strayed
Come sit at the table, come taste the grace
There’s rest for the weary, rest that endures
Earth has no sorrow that heaven can’t cure

So lay down your burdens, lay down your shame
All who are broken, lift up your face
O wanderer come home, you’re not too far
So lay down your hurt, lay down your heart

Come as you are, come as you are
Fall in his arms, come as you are

There’s joy for the morning, O sinner be still
Earth has no sorrow that heaven can’t heal
Earth has no sorrow that heaven can’t heal

So lay down your burdens, lay down your shame
All who are broken, lift up your face
O wanderer come home, you’re not too far
So lay down your hurt, lay down your heart

Come as you are

Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father
And to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost
As it was in the beginning
Is now and ever shall be
