WORSHIP – August 26, 2018

Welcome & Announcements

Call to Worship
Sing joyfully to the Lord.
Praise the Lord with the harp;
make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.
Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully, and shout for joy.

We wait in hope for the Lord;
he is our help and our shield.
In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.
May your unfailing love be with us, Lord,
even as we put our hope in you.

—based on Psalm 33

Unstoppable God
Heaven thundered
And the world was born

Life begins and ends in the dust you formed

Faith commanded
And the mountains moved

Fear is losing ground to our hope in you

Unstoppable God
Let your glory go on and on

Impossible things
In your name they shall be done

Freedom conquered
All our chains undone

Sin defeated, Jesus has overcome

Mercy triumphed
When the third day dawned

Darkness was denied when the stone was gone

Unstoppable God
Let your glory go on and on

Impossible things
In your name they shall be done

Unstoppable God
Let your glory go on and on

Impossible things
In your name they shall be done

Nothing shall be impossible
Your kingdom reigns unstoppable

We’ll shout your praise forevermore
Jesus, our God, unstoppable

Nothing shall be impossible
Your kingdom reigns unstoppable

We’ll shout your praise forevermore
Jesus, our God, unstoppable

Nothing shall be impossible
Your kingdom reigns unstoppable

We’ll shout your praise forevermore
Jesus, our God, unstoppable

Nothing shall be impossible
Your kingdom reigns unstoppable

We’ll shout your praise forevermore
Jesus, our God, unstoppable

Unstoppable God
Let your glory go on and on

Impossible things
In your name they shall be done

Unstoppable God
Let your glory go on and on

Impossible things
In your name they shall be done

King of Glory
Lift up your gaze, be lifted up
Tell everyone how great the love

The love come down from heaven’s gate
To kiss the earth with hope and grace

Sing, who is this King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty

Who is this King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty

Lift up your hands, be lifted up
Let the redeemed declare the love

We bow down at heaven’s gate
To kiss the feet of hope and grace

Sing, who is this King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty

Who is this King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty

There is one God, he is holy
There is one Lord over everything

There is one King, he is Jesus
King of glory, strong and mighty

You are the King of glory
The Lord, strong and mighty

You are the King of glory
The Lord, strong and mighty

You are the King of glory
The Lord, strong and mighty

You are the King of glory
The Lord, strong and mighty

You are the King of glory
The Lord, strong and mighty

You are the King of glory
The Lord, strong and mighty

One and Only
Who spoke and taught the sun to rise
Whose lips proclaimed the birth of light

Who sparked the kindling of stars
And set the fire in our hearts

Who sang as planets learned their dance
Who poured the oceans from his hands

Whose breath awakened life from dust
And leaves me breathless at his touch

Jesus, one and only
Great and holy, we are yours

How our hearts race at your glory
Lord almighty, we are yours and yours alone

Who is this man upon a cross
Who left his throne to ransom us

Who died to save us at our worst
And rose to give us heaven’s best

Jesus, one and only
Great and holy, we are yours

How our hearts race at your glory
Lord almighty, we are yours

My Savior, Jesus, one and only
Great and holy, we are yours

How our hearts race at your glory
Lord almighty, we are yours and yours alone

We will watch the bridegroom come
And heaven breaking like the dawn

All dressed in white, our shame is gone
We’re free to dance before your throne

Jesus, one and only
Great and holy, we are yours

How our hearts race at your glory
Lord almighty, we are yours

My Jesus, one and only
Great and holy, we are yours

How our hearts race at your glory
Lord almighty, we are yours and yours alone

Prayer for the People, the City, and the Nations

Gifts — Deliverance
Your love is a flood and I swim deep when the tide is up
Oh, would you flood me too

Saltwater in my blood has made me taste sweet to the world
Oh, and you taste sweet too

This is my deliverance
Hands held high as you deliver it, oh

You have made me a child of God

My feet on the ground and my heart in heaven
I am bread made without the leaven, oh

You have made me a child of God

I lay in the sand with sweet forgiveness in my hand
Oh, as a gift from you

Your love floods my brain, this gray cranium won’t be the same
No, where I’ve been won’t do

This is my deliverance
Hands held high as you deliver it, oh

You have made me a child of God

My feet on the ground and my heart in heaven
I am bread made without the leaven, oh

You have made me a child of God

You have made me a child of God

You have made me a child of God

And I won’t go
’Til I know

That you have sown all you have in me, yeah

This is my deliverance
Hands held high as you deliver it, oh

You have made me a child of God

My feet on the ground and my heart in heaven,
I am bread made without the leaven, oh

You have made me a child of God

You have made me a child of God

You have made me a child of God, oh

You have made me a child of God

King of My Heart
Let the King of my heart
Be the mountain where I run

The fountain I drink from
Oh, he is my song

Let the King of my heart
Be the shadow where I hide

The ransom for my life
Oh, he is my song

You are good, good, oh, oh
You are good, good, oh, oh

You are good, good, oh, oh
You are good, good, oh, oh

Let the King of my heart
Be the wind inside my sails

The anchor in the waves
Oh, he is my song

Let the King of my heart
Be the fire inside my veins

The echo of my days
Oh, he is my song

You are good, good, oh, oh
You are good, good, oh, oh

You are good, good, oh, oh
You are good, good, oh, oh

You’re never gonna let
Never gonna let me down

You’re never gonna let
Never gonna let me down

You’re never gonna let
Never gonna let me down

You’re never gonna let
Never gonna let me down

You’re never gonna let
Never gonna let me down

You’re never gonna let
Never gonna let me down

You’re never gonna let
Never gonna let me down

You’re never gonna let
Never gonna let me down

You are good, good, oh, oh
You are good, good, oh, oh

Sermon
“The Curious Gift”
Romans 14:12-23

Prayer of Confession
Father, we confess our sins before you now.
Forgive us for allowing the good things in our lives
to become ultimate things;
for our indifference towards our relationship with you;
for letting things other than our union with Christ
in his death and resurrection define us;
for losing sight of the fact that
we are your sons and daughters.
We are thankful that you invite us to confess our sins
with the knowledge that
you do not deal with us according to our iniquities,
nor reward us according to our transgressions;
that your lovingkindness knows no limits;
that your compassion toward those who trust in you is great;
that you are the One who removes all our flaws and failures
as far as the east is from the west.
All this is ours in Christ and we thank you.
Through him, Amen.

Assurance of Pardon
There is now no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

— Romans 8:1 & 2
